There’s been quite a few successful collabs lately with some major fashion houses.
When I heard about Balmain working with Barbie I wasn’t sure it was even true.
Moschino had already pulled it off. Putting our blond, plastic childhood friend on their Spring Runway in 2015.
But Moschino is a fun, quirky brand. And Balmain is like their Old Money, conservative grandmother.
But I decided to give it a chance and check it out.
Barbie and her friends were brought to life with this collection.
Bubblegum pink Balmain Print from head to toe.
Several fun pieces.
Outfits that look like they came straight from the closet of Barbie’s Dream House.
I’m taken back to my childhood with this bag. It reminds me of the case I carried my beloved dolls around in.
Iconic Balmain pieces are now in hot pink prints.
Neiman Marcus Stores looked like Malibu Barbie would be walking through at any minute.
I feel like this Collab missed the mark. Unlike successful partnerships with previous designers, this one didn’t represent both brands in individual pieces. And don’t even get me started on the prices!!
All in all, it was fun to look and and great pieces for serious collectors.
Since Barbie is now 63 years old perhaps it time to shop at Balmain and choose some neutral, classic pieces. Just not from this line.
