Memphis is known for several things. Elvis and Graceland. Beale Street and the Blues. Memphis BBQ with their signature seasoned rub.
Designer Prep Curry just added to that list.
The self taught emerging designer just launched a collab with Banana Republic.
I’m excited about this launch for several reasons. The first brand to have me as an influencer and a talented young man from my home state. This collection is close to my heart.
Colorful florals dominate his gender neutral designs.
Reminiscent of the wildflower fields back home in Tennessee, these pieces bring a smile to my face.
From being homeless to showing at New York Fashion Week, Curry’s journey wasn’t easy.
He had moved from Memphis to LA to pursue his dream. with $6 to his name. He built his brand from the ground up.
An invitation to NYFW was a turning point for him. Unable to afford the flight, those that believed in him flooded his PayPal and Cash App with enough money to make it there.
Serendipity played a big part in this Collab. After running late for the after show luncheon he took an empty seat. That seat was next to Mark Breitbard, CEO of GAP Inc.
As they spoke Curry took a leap of faith.
“I wish there was a way I could do a collection with you guys. A collaboration.”
The rest is history.
The Banana Republic X Prep Curry launched this week.
This collection shows me, Day Dreams do come true. And some of the best things come from Tennessee.
